1. Who we are

Observed Markets is a personal side project operated by Ricardo Almeida Silva (LinkedIn), based in Portugal. Ricardo Almeida Silva is the data controller for personal data collected through observedmarkets.com. This is not a commercial service and no subscription or payment is charged for access.

2. What data we collect

Account data

When you create an account, we collect your email address. We do not collect passwords. Authentication is handled via magic links sent to your email.

Usage data

We may collect basic usage data such as pages visited and features used, to improve the platform. This data is not linked to your identity unless you are logged in.

Payment data

Observed Markets is free and we do not collect any payment information. There are no paid plans.

Communications

As a signed-in member, we send you periodic research updates and weekly digests. You can unsubscribe from these emails at any time using the link in any email.

Delivery logs

When we send you an email, we record that it was sent (your address, the purpose, and the timestamp) so we can enforce a monthly sending cap and investigate delivery failures. The operator (Ricardo Almeida Silva) receives a weekly internal summary of aggregate send/fail counts and a copy of the outbound digest; this summary may contain the list of recipient addresses. The logs themselves are not shared outside the operator and our email delivery provider.

3. How we use your data

We use your data to:

  • Provide access to your account and member features.
  • Send authentication magic links.
  • Send weekly research digests and updates to signed-in members.
  • Respond to support requests.
  • Improve the platform based on usage patterns.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

4. Legal basis for processing (GDPR)

For users in the European Union, our legal bases are:

  • Contract: processing necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
  • Legitimate interests: improving the platform and preventing fraud.
  • Consent: for marketing emails. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legal obligation: where required by law.

5. Data retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required by law to retain it longer.

Email data is retained for as long as your account is active. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time.

We use cookies strictly necessary for the service to function, specifically a session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use tracking cookies or advertising cookies.

8. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to:

  • Access: request a copy of your personal data.
  • Rectification: ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure: request deletion of your data.
  • Portability: receive your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Objection: object to processing based on legitimate interests.
  • Withdraw consent: for marketing emails, at any time via the unsubscribe link.

9. Data security

We use industry-standard security practices including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure session management, and access controls. We do not store passwords.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security but we take reasonable precautions.

10. Children

This service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent update.
